JANUARY 21, 2014 (Tuesday)
Woke to sunshine. The cold front is supposed to move in tonight and it’s going to get cold.
We were up and out the door pretty early for us (around 11:00 AM). We headed to Cracker Barrel to return our book on tape and to have lunch (not necessarily in that order). Lexi had a pancake breakfast, Michael had the chicken salad and baked potato special that we had last week, and I had a pot pie special. After lunch we headed to Murrells Inlet to go to Brookgreen Gardens.
Pretty smart with the audio books that keep bringing us back.
My backed potato and grilled chicken salad.
Lex’s eggs and bacon. Edie ate one piece of the bacon, I had one and half her eggs.
Lex’s pancakes, Edie got about 5 good bites.
Edie’s pot pie and salad. She didn’t like the taste of the beef, pulled it out and left it all on her plate.
We really didn’t know what to expect at Brookgreen Gardens – so everything was fun and wonderful. We opted to do the zoo part first. Really enjoyed the river otters. They put on quite the show of fighting and playing in the water. Lexi decided she wanted one as a pet. Also enjoyed seeing eagles and all the other birds. We also got to see foxes in trees. Exciting. Nice little zoo.
On the way to the garden.
At the entrance, a huge and beautiful statue.
Grand drive and entrance, really expect to see the Biltmore pop up at any time.
Well put info.
Youth taming the wild.
Fox way up in a tree.
Bald eagles. In the cage due to damaged wings.
Wolfhound vs Wolf
Dave and LoraLee were a very nice couple from Utah with their very tough grandson in tow.
After that we went to the gardens part, which are not really gardens like you would expect, but sculpture and gardens. Very beautiful. All very different and all very lovely. We plan on going back so we can see more as we felt rushed and want to spend more time. We also met some lovely people from Utah. Dave and Loralee. They were here visiting their kids and grandkids.
On the way to the garden.
This one is called “Awakening”
A lovely statue, but an odd face.
Pretty woman contemplating beauty.
At the gift shop.
The brass art in the gift shop is great.
Expensive brass works.
Nice glass works.
The brass work is excellent.
Great magnifying glass holders.
Fun art peeking at you around every corner.
A tribute to the benefactors.
Pretty woman flirting with a stone cold stranger!
We gave up. The tickets are good for 6 days and we will go back and finish looking at the art.
We left and headed to the Food Lion to pick up a few things. Then we had to stop at the front desk at our “home” to get another key as we had locked ourselves out when we left (first time; doing pretty good I think).
Today’s grocery store.
The cutest dog that I have seen in a long time. He really wanted to get out of the car and play and lick.
That was our day. Hope yours was great!
