Ocean Walk, Daytona Beach, Florida 1/12/2014

JANUARY 12, 2014 (Sunday)

Lazy day. Woke up to sunny and cold.  Had breakfast, tea, read on the computer, and waited for the 49ers to play the Panthers. Good game and glad the 49ers won (again). Want them to go all the way.

On a break from the game I saw from our balcony there was a stream of cars driving on the beach.

Right before the game started, we noticed a Worldmark room at our favorite vacation spot, Ocean Walk. We decided to grab it and have our date night alone, especially since it’s just a one bedroom. Do so love it there, even if it’s not an ocean view room. So much nicer and love the washer and dryer.  (Cost $44.80)

After the game we left and went out to eat. But first, Michael had to go for a quick drive on the beach.  What fun it is to drive on the beach where the Daytona 500 started.

Our little green beastie on the beach. The VW with orange tires thought he was a racer and left terrible ruts in his wake.

Lexi wanted to go just a little bit down the street to a place called Cruisin Cafe. We got there and it was quite interesting. They had something going on in the bar area and we weren’t quite sure if it was gambling or just the game that was on television. We went to the dining room area and the server came to seat us. She was wearing the super short shorts like at Hooters, so Michael liked that. She sat us in a race car table that could easily fit eight people. Was fun. Lexi got her usual cheeseburger, Michael got soup and salad, and I got a steak sandwich. I would not recommend this place but Lexi liked her burger.

Cruisin Cafe, Lex's choice. Okay, really more of a bar than a restaurant. Had a nice NASCAR decor.

Edie had an open faced shaved steak sandwich with melted Swiss cheese. She did not enjoy it. Ate about half the meat, none of the bread and most of the fries. The flavor of the meat was off.

I had a bowl of minestrone soup and a chef salad. Soup was okay, a little heavy on the salt. Used part of one dressing for the whole salad. We live in the salad bowl of America (Salinas Valley) and boy are we a long way away from Salinas. Lettuce was a little limp.

After dinner, we dropped Lexi back off at our “home” so Michael and I could go on our vacation and have our date night. When we were checking in, Amanda (at the front desk) got a kick out of hearing that we’re down the street but don’t like where we’re staying and that we’ve been here three times this week. She laughed and said we don’t need to hear everything since we’ve heard it already. We did learn something new from her, that checkout for Worldmark was noon. Yahoo. Gets better and better.

Michael and I checked in and it’s a lovely room. We are on the 11th floor in a one bedroom. It’s very nice with a city view. Love it here. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
