Ron & Joan, St. Augustine, Florida 1/11/2014

JANUARY 11, 2014 (Saturday)

Slept in. We were finally able to figure out where and when we were going to St. Augustine today to see Ron and Joan. We have been wanting to see them for a while as they’ve been doing this adventure for six years. We were excited to ask questions and pick their brain and get pointers.

The drive from Daytona Beach to St. Augustine was about an hour (approx. 50 miles). We got there a little after 2:30 PM. Joan had given us perfect directions. The St. Augustine Beach and Tennis Club Resort is lovely. Ron and Joan’s unit was very homey, clean, and nicely laid out. I like all the nice “touches” she adds to make it theirs.  Also liked the full sized washer and dryer.

What wonderful people. So very nice. They answered our many questions and gave suggestions and were great about sharing. Wish I had brought a note pad to write everything down. They just seem to have it all down to a science. They do drive a bigger vehicle.  I’m sure we’ll have to look into that eventually to make everything more comfortable.

After awhile of yacking, Joan wanted to show me around her “home.”  We walked over to the rec type center. There was an outdoor pool, an indoor pool, hot tub, clay tennis courts, locker rooms, sauna, exercise room (even one for women only), a gift type shop, and a cafe type area. Very nice. After that we walked down a long wooden bridge type walk to get to the ocean. So beautiful. There was even a turtle who had dug a burrow in the sand. We walked along the powder sand for awhile and then turned back. Can understand why they love this area so much.

We got back and visited more, and even got to meet their neighbors (who are almost full timers from Canada). So fun. I did manage to finally pry Michael out because I knew Ron and Joan wanted to watch the football game (Seahawks vs. Saints). I knew they wanted to watch the game only because Ron had on his Seahawks t-shirt and had mentioned it earlier in the day about the game. Hope the Seahawks win for them. (They did, yahoo!)

Anyway, we could have talked and asked questions for many more hours. Had a lovely day and hope to see them again. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
