Cape Canaveral, Florida 1/6/2014

JANUARY 6, 2014 (Monday)

Slept pretty well but got up early. Don’t know why but I was wide awake and didn’t want to laze around any more. I went into the living room and started reading on the computer until Michael got up. After that it was tea and breakfast.

Lexi got up and wanted to go to Burlington Coat Factory and Target. We wanted to get her some gloves for New York. It’s cold here now and we can only imagine how cold it will be in New York, especially going out at night. We were surprised but Burlington didn’t have gloves. Once we got to Target, we were able to get her a pair that were compatible with her Iphone for $3.00 (yahoo).  We had lunch at Taco Bell. Michael ate at “home.”

Left some money here.

We are going to take a guided tour of the speedway, but driving from the outside, wow, it is huge. More later.

When we got back to our “home” at Silver Beach Club Resort, it was time to leave to check into our “vacation home” at Ocean Walk. We had booked three nights at Ocean Walk with our Worldmark bonus time. We’re going to put it in the budget under entertainment since it’s a vacation. It cost us $168.00 for a two bedroom for three nights. We felt it was worth it as we know where NOT to go (Silver Beach Club Resort). Wasn’t aware that Worldmark was also here and occupy floors 11 and 14.  (I think Worldmark only has three resorts in Florida.) The room isn’t nearly as nice as the one we had on Friday, no ocean views or nicer/plush furnishings, but it is much nicer than our “home” at the Silver Beach Club. Also, can do laundry while here. It’s a city view but lovely. Loving our “vacation home.”

Just a few minutes after we had checked in and checked out our room, we left to go down to Titusville to see the rocket launch from Cape Canaveral. We thought it would be really cool to see in person. The launch had been postponed from Friday and we had been told it was scheduled for 5:07 PM to 7:07 PM. We parked at an area that you can walk out into the bay on a pier type structure with lots of benches. There were about ten or fifteen other people out waiting and watching. It was so cold that Michael went back to the car to get coats and blankets before the launch. The launch was right on time and it was wonderful. Loved it. Was truly amazing watching it disappear into the sky. Went way too fast though. Would love to see another one next year.

Fellow watchers and you see a bright light just to the left of the pier, that is the rocket taking off.

Drove back home and Michael stopped at Wendy’s in Daytona Beach to get him a salad and me a chili for dinner. Not sure what we’re gonna watch on television tonight. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
