Astronaut Hall of Fame, Florida 1/2/2014

JANUARY 2, 2014 (Thursday)

Woke up to beautiful blue skies, for about ten minutes, then it started getting darker and darker and colder and colder. A front is moving in fast. Rain started falling around 3:30 PM really hard. Hope the front moves through and the skies are clear for tomorrow night’s launch that we’re hoping to see.

Michael left around noon to go to the Space Museum near the Police Officer Museum. The ticket he purchased yesterday also gets him into this. I’m sure he’ll want to tell you a little bit about what he saw and did on the pictures he posts. Before he left he wanted to put together a soup with all the leftover potatoes, chicken, vegetables, canned tomatoes, etc. It turned out wonderful.

This was a time line that traveled at least five times further than what is in the photo. As you walked along you heard songs of the day, and news snippets from the period you were looking through.

Lexi and I just vegged out. I did laundry and that was an adventure in itself. Each of the 14 units here have their own little laundry center underneath the stairs (so we were told, didn’t check for sure).  The laundry has a washer and a dryer ($1.00 each). Our washer had the weirdest contraption on it that was kinda scary and looked very dangerous. It was the unit that stops the washer when the lid is open. Someone removed it from under the top of the washer and it was hanging by wires just over the tub. The part that is depressed by a plastic wedge when the door closes was held in the down position by a metal beer cap. If the contraption didn’t have the beer cap in, the water did not flow and the machine did not work. Well, today when I went down, the whole contraption was gone and the machine did not work. Luckily the key to the laundry room also worked at the building next door on unit 9. Just a pain dragging out my clothes that had already had laundry detergent put on them, and then carrying them down to the next unit. Got it done though.

Today was a day of sorting through things. I’m trying to get more organized and put things where they belong instead of having to constantly look for them.  Lexi was so sweet and “did” my toes with pretty pink nail polish. They look good for old toes, if I do say so myself.

We are just sitting around like little Buddhas now with our tummies full from the wonderful soup, watching the rain outside.

We are at Vacation Villas. A 14 building apartment complex that has been converted to a timeshare resort.
