University of Victoria – Victoria BC, Canada, 8/24/2013
AUGUST 24, 2013 (Saturday)
We went to the University of Victoria campus and drove around. What lovely grounds it has. Park like, lush, green, and beautiful. We were surprised at all the different buildings, architecturally. They all worked well together. Lots of new construction going on. Looks like they’re building a sports complex or something like that.
After we left the university we weren’t sure what we wanted to do but Michael had been wanting to go back to the white dome on the hill and “climb the rocks” like the neighbor yesterday had told us was necessary in order to get there. We decided to go there and on the way we saw a remarkable tree. Looks like it is from a different planet, or at least a different epoch, something strange and prehistoric.
We got to the white house and walked up to the plaque on top that shows where things are in the city and in the water. Fun to know. What awesome views from the top, and not too bad of a walk up stairs, over rocks, and around. Was fun. Just be slow and careful.
Once we finished there, we went to Gonzales Bay. You have to walk down a long narrow set of stairs to get to the beach. There was a group of five paddle boarders out in the bay, seemed to be just learning. Looked like fun. There were also lots of red jellyfish type things on the ground. Lots and lots of driftwood. Lovely. We were surprised there were so many picnic tables near the beach with the glorious views.
After that was all about Safeway, and then next door to get a bottle of wine. Came home and Michael made the most delicious dinner – chicken and pasta – yummy.
That was our day. Hope yours was grand!
