Safeway – Victoria, BC, Canada 7/27/2013

JULY 27, 2013 (Saturday)

Just a lazy day. Michael is wanting to finally break the pain cycle in his neck so has decided to just stay down for a couple of days and see if that works. So far, so good. Will keep you posted.

I ventured out and went exploring a little. Ended up at a Safeway store. They sure are different. You wouldn’t think so but they are. First off, the carts. I had to ask how to get one as they are locked together. Was told you need to insert a quarter. I didn’t have a quarter so the cashier gave me one. I think it’s a great idea and probably keeps down people from stealing them. And you get your quarter back when you are done with it, I left mine in since it wasn’t mine.

You put the quarter in a slot in the black box and I think you get it back when you lock it back.

Stumped me! Never seen a lock on the grocery carts at Safeway before.

Prices here are very high. I guess it’s because it’s an island. I’m in a kind of price shock. When Michael’s neck is better, we plan on going to Costco and seeing how that is. I spent over $80.00 and got only enough food for a very few days. They wanted $8.00 for a can of chili!

We were a little worried about not being in contact via Verizon while here. We tried to get the $15 a month Canada plan but they wanted to get rid of our unlimited data to do anything. Michael discovered his google phone will work off the laptop so that’s good. Free calls to the US from Canada! We are now back in communication with family.

I’ve been looking at day trips, or even overnight trips. Wanting to get to the top of the island and see what that’s like. We have a month but want to see it all!

We promise more pictures soon, depending on Michael’s neck.  It really is lovely here.

That was our day, hope yours was good!
