The Chocolate Bar – Reno, Nevada 7/8/2013
JULY 8, 2013 (Monday)
Lazy morning (as usual).
Early in the afternoon we finally moved and went down to the 7th floor to the swimming pool and hot tub. The water seemed cold so we went to the hot tub first. Michael whined and cried so much, only got to enjoy it for about two minutes before we went back to the pool. ( Mike here for an editorial moment. I retired a Chief Deputy Warden, managed a maximum security prison for the state of California. To be a good manager you have to LOOK and SEE and if something is wrong you have to SPEAK UP about it! I have never “whined and cried” in my life. I do plead guilty to utilizing good management practices and speaking up.) Pool seemed much warmer and easier to get in the second time. We did very slow and leisure laps. Nice.
After that we got dressed for our dinner at “The Chocolate Bar” with Pat and Sharon (my sister and brother-in-law). We met them down at the parking garage around the corner from the resort.
The restaurant validates parking so that’s nice. We went directly to the restaurant and got a table in the corner. The table was kinda wobbly so we ended up trying to fix it ourselves by bracing it against the wall. Worked for us. Michael and Pat ordered white chocolate raspberry martini’s, and Sharon and I had a pitcher of sangria.
Yummy all around. Next we ordered an appetizer, I think they call it small plates, of flat bread. Could easily make a meal just out of that. Excellent. (Oink, no picture, oink) Michael and Sharon ordered chicken Marsala and Pat and I had flat iron steaks. He had it with sweet potato fries, and I had it with mashed potatoes. It was really good but the sauce on the steak was too sweet (even for me). Could not eat all of it.
What I had really been waiting for was the fondue dessert. We ordered for three and enough was delivered for eight. It had the white chocolate dip in the top surrounded by bananas, strawberries, brownies, and pound cake. In the middle of the bottom was the candle to keep the fondue hot. Everything was so good. We could not eat all of it so we asked if we could get it to go. No problem.
We decided to waddle out and take a stroll around the river walk and show Pat and Sharon some of the things we had discovered in the area. We took them over to the art decorated water fountains, and then walked along until we got to Wingfield Park.
It was family day and all sorts of characters in costume were there. I only recognized one – Clifford the Big Red Dog. The others were just cute but I have no clue what they were supposed to be.
We came back to our home and just hung out for awhile. Nice to get some alone time with them and catch up. We’re hoping they will be able to join us in Florida around Christmas. We’ll see.
Had a lovely day. Hope yours was too.
You forgot to mention that you had them bag up the left over white chocolate fondue. As we did the river walk you gave the still piping hot fondue, cold strawberries, bananas, pound cake and browniew to a begger digging in trash cans. She was thrilled. Nice time…thank you sissy
