River Walk – Reno, Nevada 7/7/2013

JULY 7, 2013 (Sunday)

Weather has been beautiful. We were having nightly (and sometimes daily) thunder and lightning storms, but they seem to be gone and it’s just warm and beautiful.

We got moving and walked down to the casinos. We wanted to see the inside of the mine at the Silver Legacy. We knew it was inside the big dome but didn’t realize they didn’t have a tour. Oh well, we had fun and saw more things we hadn’t seen before. We ran into one employee, Doc Cheatham, who was such fun. He did card tricks and magic. Hope if you go, you get to meet him and see what he does. He’s really good.

Doc Cheatham, a true magician. So good with cards. Totally tricked Edie and I. Thank God he is not allowed to deal.

After that we went to the El Dorado and Harrah’s. We just wanted to look and see what items they had displayed. We enjoyed the huge fountain in the El Dorado. It was a smaller version of the ones we had seen in Las Vegas.

In Harrah’s, after looking around, we wanted to get the two for one buffets but it isn’t offered until around 4:30 PM. We even went and got our Extra Rewards cards to use for the two for one. We’ll try again one day this week, and try not to eat too much.  We ended up eating at the Silver Peak Grill and Brewery.  Very good food.

We said we'd photograph before we ate this time. Oops, we split a cob salad and turkey burger with fruit.

We walked back to our “home” on the opposite side of the river and really enjoyed all the fountains and sculptures.

Then we got our car out of valet. They do charge a $5.50 per day charge for valet parking, but it’s nice knowing your car is safe and inside. We drove along the river and went to the end of the road. We talked about where we would want to live if we were on the river. Some beautiful mansions and some modest homes overlooking the river. Lovely drive.

We then went to the Safeway store and got some items we needed and were out of. We headed back, unloaded the groceries, and then took a nap while watching the PBS series on the Civil War. We are waiting on the wine and cheese get together this evening to see what else is going on in Reno, besides Artown.

Just got back from the wine and cheese get together. Michelle and Joseph are such a fun couple. They work for Timeshare Liquidators Service (TLC), and were sent up here two years ago from Las Vegas. They do a great job of explaining all the activities going on in town. Fun. We met some really fun people (Pierre and Carmel). Also, two couples who have owned here for over ten years (one couple over thirty years).

Now getting ready for our Sunday date night with PBS. Hope Inspector Lewis is on but, if not, Masterpiece Mystery is always good.

Hope your day was wonderful!
