Legends and Sparks Marina – Sparks, Nevada 6/27/2013
JUNE 27, 2013 (Thursday)
Lazy morning, coffee, breakfast, reading, TV.
After we had a late lunch (leftovers, yummy), we left to try to find the Sparks Fire Department to take a picture for our son. He thought it would be cool because of the apparent oxymoron of it all. So, is there a town called Burning? Does it have a Fire Department? Anyway, the road was closed because there was a farmers market going on. Found a great play fountain for kids though.
We’ll try again later. We then headed for the Sparks Marina. How beautiful it is. 2 billion gallons of water, 81 acres, swimming area, playgrounds, boat launch. We drove all the way around, as much as we could. There’s even an area where it’s kinda like Venice in that the homes are built right on the canal and there are all sorts of water craft below each house. Though none with motors, rather only electric motors or paddles allowed. I could live there. Fun.
After the Sparks Marina, we drove a little further to Legends. Legends is a huge upscale outlet mall type thing but it’s really cool. It has really nice water features going on, like a place for the kids to run around rocks and get wet with the water squirting up. Also lovely sculptures and things to read as you walk along. Nice stores.
We went into Scheels, we were told we should stop and see it. What fun. It is a 3 story sporting goods store. There is a huge arching aquarium when you walk into the store. Beyond that they have a ferris wheel in the center of the building. Of course we had to ride it. It was $1 per person. What a deal. Michael wanted to rock it but after he tried it once, he and I both put a death grip on the safety bars. Fun.
Then we walked around the building and saw the stuffed animals, merchandise and just all the different things. They have talking latex Presidents – JFK, Ronald Reagan , Truman, Roosevelt, Jefferson, Adams, Washington, etc. The Jefferson animatronic was very revolutionary in their speech. Fun. Nice store.
After that we went back to our “home.” It’s hot out and we’re just vegging and running the air for all it’s worth. Michael is going to make shrimp for dinner and I’m making the salad.
Maybe a swim later.
Hope your day was great!
