Rocklin, CA to Sparks, NV 6/22/2013
JUNE 22, 2013 (Saturday)
Got to sleep in. It felt wonderful. We woke up around 8:30 AM and had some coffee in our room. When we both had our showers and had dressed, we walked over to a nearby Subway and got breakfast. After that, we walked back to our room and read on the computer and posted the blog until around 11:00 AM. We had been having troubles with the internet, but today it seemed better and didn’t kick us off as much. It can be very frustrating when the internet isn’t working or isn’t readily available.
After we checked out, we drove up Highway 80 to Reno and started looking for a place to have lunch. We ended up at a little Mexican restaurant. Was good enough food but it was one of those places where nothing is fast. It was probably at least thirty minutes before we got our lunch. After lunch we headed to our resort, The Thunderbird Resort Club. I had read some reviews so I wasn’t expecting much. We get to the gate and it was lovely, beautiful landscaping and water features. We drove to the registration area and were met by the activities director, who gave us the welcome packet and told us a few areas she thought we might enjoy. She also gave us a calendar of activities for the resort. They have a BBQ, wine and cheese socials, ice cream socials, and bikes available.
After the activities director was done talking, we went to the remote check in where you talk to a person on the television monitor. She’s responsible for checking in at four or five different resorts. Check-in was quick and easy, and fun because it was so different.
We walked over to our room as it was so close to the registration area. Walking into the room we smelled a musty smell, but not bad. The unit is older but it was very nice and clean. It’s pretty well stocked and has nice stainless steel appliances. The unit itself is a one bedroom and quite roomy. They have basic internet for free, which is 512kps and for a fee you can upgrade to 2mbps.
Later in the evening we Googled where the nearest Safeway or Whole Foods was. We headed to the Safeway and did some grocery shopping. We’re going to try to replicate the Italian meal George had made us (minus the shrimp, we’re gonna try chicken). We want to perfect it and add it to our repertoire of meals we love.
We got back, unloaded and put away the groceries. There isn’t a whole lot of storage area for food but….we always manage. Afterwards, we walked around exploring the pool and grounds. They are lovely. A nice covered area that has BBQ pits, a large area for playing games, a popcorn machine, DVD’s, books, games. Nice. Large expansive areas of grass for kids to play and enjoy.
The last of the day was watching TV and doing today’s blog. Hope you had a great day with safe journeys.
Nice resort. You are near my home resort. I had no clue that place existed. Loving your travels, have a safe journey…
Thanks for the feedback. It motivates us to keep it going.
