Pawn Stars and Fremont Street Experience – Las Vegas, Nevada 6/10/2013
JUNE 10, 2013 (Monday)
Lazy day. Slept in (8:30 am), coffee, breakfast, computer, reading on line, laundry, did dishes, made bed, made lunch (nice salad, crackers and hummus). Got ready to leave for the Fremont Street experience at around 5 PM. We were going to take the shuttle but decided to drive. Glad we did because we were done with the whole experience by 9 PM, and the shuttle did not return until 10:30 PM.
First place we went to was the Pawn Stars shop. We thought we’d have to wait in line but we got right in. The store is more for buying souvenirs and such but it was interesting.
Afterwards we headed for Fremont Street. We found a large parking facility and walked down the stairs and around the corner to about the middle of Fremont Street.
We came out right as four people were zip lining down. What fun. If I weren’t so overweight, I think I’d try it. Wouldn’t want to splat anyone on Fremont Street.
Walking the area was quite interesting. A lot of the same characters that were on the strip in December seemed to be on Fremont Street. It was really loud because of all the speakers and all the music stages set up on almost every block. At one of the large stages a DJ with a very large colored Mohawk was doing his thing while a young, very tattooed girl with pink and blue dreadlocks danced. Off the stage there were several other people dancing to their own tune. Fun. There were Elvis impersonators, Gladiators, clowns, singers, transformers, all kinds of characters. There were also tons of beggars with signs.
We got hungry and ate at one of the casino’s. Not very good but we were hungry so….we choked it down as best we could. Afterwards we just started walking until the light show started at a little after 8 PM. What fun. At around 9 PM we left and headed for “home.”
